The Original Wine of the Month Club, founded in 1972 to take the guesswork out of elaborate labels and expensive price tags in choosing an exceptional wine, has grown into America's trusted source of unique and compelling wines. When all the California greats (Chateau Montelena, Dry Creek Vineyards, Jordan, etc.) were coming of age, Paul Kalemkiarian set out to sample all that could be to find the greatest values for his customers at Palos Verdes Wines and Spirits (a premier wine shop in Southern California in the 1970's). As he selected the best two values he located each month, customers of the shop requested that he have them delivered. His son, me, commenced delivering the selections to the local few that were really interested. As the reputation grew, we began delivering the wine directly through UPS, and the concept of wine in the mail was born. There is only one Original Wine of the Month Club and only one federally registered and trademarked Wine of the Month Club
